Getting Started!

Hello world! My first blog post on my very own website. I would say this is pretty exciting. For me at least.

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, maybe share a little bit about my life, and what I am searching for in this ever-expanding and evolving world.

My name is Alyson, Alyson McElhinny (for now). I say it like that because I'm getting married soon! Which would be exciting if it wasn't so incredibly stressful. But I'm also on the job hunt and prepping for a possible move that might never come (but maybe it will). So I guess you could say life might be a little overwhelming right now.

But enough about all that. I'm a writer! And an editor, and a graphic designer, and an aspiring UX designer. Please forgive my use of a run-on sentence there. It's serving it's purpose, I promise.

This website will serve as an avenue for me to share my different projects and some writing samples in the form of blog entries. But I also think this will be a good way for me to put myself out there and expand my skills. Of course, this blog will be in my personal voice. So it will be more relaxed and light, but there may be some other posts where I take on the more professional tone that everyone wants to hear.

This is a bit strange, talking about myself so much. I don't think I've talked about myself this much since therapy, so Tuesday. Centuries ago.

A little bit more about me? (Not that anyone asked.) I'm engaged and currently working as an Administrative Coordinator at a non-profit. My fiancé and I have 3 cats (I know). They don't get along so if anyone has any tips, feel free to let me know. I studied English: Creative Writing at Miami University. Writing has always been my passion and something that I wanted to do. I've also been exploring Coursera a lot, taking different courses on there to learn more. One thing I cannot deny is that I love to learn new things.

My fiancé is an engineer. He is also job hunting as we both plan to move towards Pittsburgh and new jobs will be necessary once we get there. That is also where we will be getting married.

That's the thing about weddings. They always seem so exciting and fun from the outside, but on the inside they are just an Everest-sized mountain of stress, anxiety, and money. So perhaps I'll end up airing a bit of that stress out here as well. If anyone can relate or has any advice on wedding planning, feel free to shoot me an email because I currently feel like I'm drowning.

Well, I feel like that's enough tangents for the first blog post. It felt good. I hope that whoever is reading this has an amazing day and that everything works out well for them. Never forget that you are appreciated!
